MATCH REPORT: Collins goal defeats Ingles

Sutton Bonington FC playing against Ingles FC Reserves

Sutton narrowly defeated Ingles Reserves 1-0 to move up to 6th in the table.

Sutton went into the game having been beaten twice already this season by a well drilled Ingles Development side. They also knew that given the remaining fixtures, there was a possibility of a fight for 4th place between the two teams.

The game started positively for both sides, creating a few half opportunities but without any real threat on goal. A bobbly pitch caused havoc with everyone’s first touch, but the boys managed to utilise the space well and get the wing backs involved going forwards.

Overall the first half wasn’t much of a spectacle. Half time came with the score still 0-0. Tormey’s words at half time were about triangles, getting the ball to the by line and cutting it back across, which the team had worked a lot on in training.

Much of the same second half, tough for both sides to string any number of passes together. Ingles were trying the long ball over the top every time they could, but the Sutton back three were defending it well.

Sutton’s goal came ten minutes into the second half. A few neat passes on the right hand side found Crosland in space. A drilled cross to the back post found Cain Collins to tap in and put the boys in yellow 1-0 up.

Everyone knew there was too long left on the clock to shut up shop and play for the 1-0. 15 minutes later, Brown chased down a back pass to the Ingles keeper, bobbing over his foot and clean through, he was taken down by the defender. Crosland got on the end of the loose ball but couldn’t find the back of the net. Some gritty defending saw out the rest of the game, a stellar performance all around.

Full time, 1-0 to the Bon, which sees Sutton jump up to 6th place in Division with a number of games still in hand over the teams above.
