MATCH REPORT: Reserves knocked out on penalties
Sutton Reserves fell at the first hurdle in the County Cup, but only after penalties.
It was the 1st round of the County Cup as the hosted Wymeswold for the 1st time since March 21st 2019, where Sutton were defeated 6-1 in the semi-final of the Bonser Trophy.
Manager Hood had been busy in the week leading up to the game signing 4 new recruits in Ishq, Shaabal, Ahmed and Hashim.
Wymeswold started the game the strongest and took an early lead through a mistake that saw the ball make its way through the keeper's legs. Things went from bad to worse and Sutton were 2-0 down shortly after.
Sutton didn't let their heads drop and started to make some half chances from outside the box. The 1st big chance fell to Ahmed inside the box from a Hood pull back and the right back smashed the ball home into the roof of the net.
As the game entered the 2nd half Sutton progressed and worked the ball well, but it took a bit of magic to bring the scores level. A pass from Korpal in midfield found Shaabal who drove towards goal before unleashing a shot from 35 yards out that was too good for the keeper to stop even at full stretch.
Sutton then had a goal disallowed and Winger Freer saw his chance cannon off the bar before the referee blew for full time and the game went to penalties.
Unfortunately for Sutton, 3 missed penalties saw them lose the shootout and exit the cup at the 1st hurdle.
Next week Sutton are back in the league when the travel to former Senior League side Kibworth Town.
