MATCH REPORT: Leicester Rangers too strong for Reserves
New side Leicester Rangers proved they are in the wrong league as the beat Sutton Reserves 16-4.
The opening game of the Leics County League 2 season didn't exactly go to plan for the Reserves, with the manager turning up 40 mins late with the wrong kit after having to pick up players, and things went from bad to worse.
The Reserves had just 11 players for the 1st game of the 2023/24 season, veteran Mark Shaw was in to play in goal with a back four of Joe White, fresh out of retirement, Nick Cook, new captain Max Benson and James Wiggins. Matt Pinchess and Ram Korpal were in centre of midfield with the four attacking players being Dan Vowles, Patrick Hood, Dennis Simons and Adam Thompson.
The game didn't get off to a great start as Sutton conceded early followed by a further 9 goals before the half time whistle. Sutton were able to grab themselves 2 goals in the 1st half however as Pinchess and Thompson both fired the ball home.
The Sutton lads were understandably deflated against the new team to the league, who definitely showed that they have enough quality to be competing in a higher division.
Sutton came out for the 2nd half and somehow saw themselves grab 2 early goals through Thompson and Cook, but the momentum didn't last long as Rangers put another 6 past the Sutton keeper to make the final scoreline 16-4.
The lads will now look to pick themselves up and go again next week when they visit Glenfield Town Reserves.
